Yes, it's over.. 2006, I mean. Last year was not easy for us, beginning with the flood, and ending with a lot of stress and work in the day job. So, for our Yago project, progress was very sporadic and with long interruptions. But things always settle down, 2007 has come and we are ready for new adventures ;-) Of course it was not all bad, on the contrary. We did get some work done, we stuck together, The Rover 36 was started and had nicely advanced before winter came, and, most importantly, we found out that it's in the difficult years that you make good friends. So, to all of you who have helped us, from dragging our sandbags to sending us encouraging phone calls and mails, all the way to people that just come and keep visiting this site even if the updates are so rare and between - a Big Thank You from all of us!! ;-) If you have been here before: Go and check out the YAGO 36 pages again. Last year I got a comission for a larger v ersion of Yago and the esign work is well advanced, with the building scheduled to start early 2007 in Florida. We will update this section soon, and a full set of construction drawings for this boat will also be available at a reasonable price some time later this year. |

September 5th - what a nice summer! |
|
This years summer was very nice and very hot. In August we were glad to escape for one week's sailing on Lake Balaton. The lake is quite big really, some 80 kilomters long, with lots of well equipped marinas all around, and you could easily spend 2 or 3 weeks sailing here, and still chang port every night. It's of course nice to spend all your free time designing and building boats... but it's also good to be reminded from time to time what these things are meant to be good for ;-) That was the second week - the first week of my annual holiday was spent at home, working on Yago. I managed to finally get most of the structure in and am currently busy to finalize all outside welds on top, so that with a bit of plastic I can close the hull against the rain bevor the winter. You've guessed it, it's again not this year that we will sandblast and paint.. but if at least we don't get stopped again over the winter, in spring we will definetely get rid of this lovely rust-color ;-) |

As I did not manage to find a welder to help me out, I finally attacked the welding of the deck myself. It's 2 mm sheets, and if you have done any welding, you will understand what it means to weld that with electrodes... not easy at all. Also it's getting very hot here, this week up to 35 degress celsius, that's 95 fahrenheit for you overseas guys, and that is in the shadow ... which is NOT where the boat is... The steel gets so hot that I have to wear gloves to touch the deck, and inside I can only work until about 10 in the morning, after that I start feeling dizzy. so this weekend, I started out inside in the morning, then continue outside until about noon, cold shower, siesta, at about five pick up again on the outside and finish inside when it's in the shadow from the hill across the road... tough going, but it's sure nice to see some advancement again. |

On deck again... At last we are working again. Karcsi helped me bend my pipes, so all that was left to me was to nicely assemble them and to tack them on. Here is the result, looks nice and gives a new perspective to the deck. I also spent quite some time to move the website to a new domain: www.yago-project.com. Don't forget to update your bookmarks. At the moment work is progressing again, but there is a lot left. I am tryig to find a welder to spent a couple of hours grilling electrodes while I have then time to build the hundred little bits and pieces that are still missing. |

May 2006 - New Website and long overdue news! |
|
As you can see, we have moved to the new Web Page system. The migration will still take some time, some of the old material needed reviewing and there is still a lot of translations to do. That was one of the reasons to move to this contentmanagement system, being able to easily offer most of this content in German, my native tongue, as well.
I also have to say that I am very surprised that you kept visiting this site throughout all of the winter, even if there was no update at all and no news about our project. That does not mean that we did nothing though... among other thing I designed a 36' Motoryacht, the ROVER 36 for a friend who lives nearby, and construction is well under way - see the building diary.
On our own YAGO, work has picked up again, at last. This year we had a a bit of a difficult start... The Danube rose to it's highest ever recorded level, and for us that meant that we had an "early launch" that was not at all scheduled. The funny part was that when the water was at it's absolute highest, the steel hull filled up because the welds at the bottom are still not closed, and then the water stopped at EXACTLY the waterline....
What was less funny was that we had the same waterline in the kitchen, the office, the living room, had to switch off electricity, evacuate the house and only after two weeks could start to get rid of all the mud and dirt.
We are still recovering from that, obviously this put a nasty dent into our plans, a lot of work, a lot of unforeseen costs.. but the summer is coming, and I have started welding YAGO and begun working on the deck details. More about this soon, promised!! |
