| What's all this about the YAGO PROJECT? |
|
For some time now I have been pregnant with boat plans again. I had hoped that that was over, having said "never again" many years ago. It's much better to buy when you want to own, and to charter when you want to sail a boat. But two years ago I was looking for something to get the family together. Living near the Danube, with lakes nearby, the idea of a boat seemed a good one. Why not build it? For the boys that would be good, forms the character and all that. So in three months we stitched and glued a nice 5.5 m ply Dory, a Spritsail Yawl build on plans from Murray Isles Halfway through the construction Olga stood there, with a bottle of beer in one hand and the grinder in the other, white epoxy dust all over her and said: "OK lets build it". She was talking about the big live-aboard I had promised her when we met. Easy promises, because due to circumstances, finances and busy times I was safe from actually starting it right away. Maybe deep inside I had even hoped that building the Dinghy, the dust, paint and epoxy all over clothes and kids, and of course the sawdust in the butter (we started building in the kitchen) would put her off ;-) It did not. In the meantime we changed house. Olga choose it because it was nice for building a boat, next to the river (no transport), with a big garden... near the river Danube... perfect fpor building a bigger boat. One thig lead to another, I discovered the Origami method, then designed my Yago, had so much fun doing it that I started designing boats all teh time, next to beginning the actual building, then somebody wanted a motorboat... By no, "The YAGO Project" has a life of its own. Several hundred people have written in, asked for plans, told me about their projects and have encouraged us to continue. The Website is visited by more than a hundred peopel every day, even in slow times when I do not update anything for months. Building YAGO, and designing the other boats has become far more than just my own project, and we are very greatful for all the feedback. Stay with us, come back more often, tell us you are there (just use the kontakt form) or, best of all, build your own boat!! Finally: English is not my native language, although it is what I use daily at home and in the office, so please bear with me ;-) |
